Another Barry Island Blog Post? Yes. Yes it is.

Before anyone groans and says “FFS not another Barry Island idea” - yes. Yes it is. Because once again, I’ve had a thought (dangerous, I know), and this one’s got potential to bring in a crowd the size of a Pokémon Go launch day.

Minecraft.

That’s right. The blocky little game that somehow conquered the world. I don’t get it. I’ve tried. To me, it’s just squares. Endless squares. Punching trees, building odd houses, being chased by green things that hiss. Makes no sense.

But I’ll tell you who does get it - my two boys. One is 10, the other is 19, and they both absolutely love it. Same game, same joy, nearly a decade apart. That’s not just a phase, that’s a phenomenon.

And yet - I’ve never seen a Minecraft Festival or Convention. Not in Wales, not in the UK, not anywhere really (and if they exist, they’re hidden better than diamonds in the Nether -or I havent looked properly).

So why not hold one right there on Barry Island?

Think about it:

They have got the space. Seriously, this place handled Butlins, dodgems, beach crowds, and Gavin and Stacey stuff without flinching.

They have got the vibe - the funfair, the beach, the arcades - all of it screams "family day out."

And they have the passion. Barry Island isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about possibility. It’s waiting for something new.

Minecraft is family-friendly, creative, and still one of the biggest games in the world. Imagine a weekend event - workshops, costume contests, massive block-building competitions, even a replica Minecraft world on the beach. Kids would go nuts. Adults too, let’s be honest.

Now, I admit - I'm a Star Trek Online gamer. That’s more my thing. Warp cores and photon torpedoes. I don’t understand Minecraft, probably never will. But I do understand community, passion, and the buzz of something truly big. I play when my meds kick in and let me focus, but I know love for a game when I see it - and Minecraft players have serious love.

So yeah. Another Barry Island blog. Another idea.
But come on... tell me this one wouldn't be epic.
